Macau Trip – Food

Food1

We arrived at the hotel in Macau at about 3pm. We had our first nice break from this nearby local coffee shop.

See the pork leg noodle? :)

Favourite Homemade Loh Mai Kai

Loh Mai Kai
My aunt makes the most delicious glutinous rice or Loh Mai Kai in the world. :)

Tasted the Loh Mai Kai from some of the coffee shops but still they are unable to compare to the Loh Mai Kai made by my aunt.

The sauce…super delicious!!!

Delicious Satay

Satay Feeling hungry?  I forgot to include the yummy peanut sauce served together with the dish in the photo.  We call this dish as Satay. If you come to Malaysia, you should try this dish.

Satay can be found through out the country. From the street vendors or even restaurants. You can find chicken satay, beef satay, pork satay etc.   Satay is served together with cucumbers and onions. Some served with or without sauce.

Do you like Satay? We all love it.

Famous Bukit Mertajam Dry Noodle

Dry Noodle Super yummy dry noodle. Try this dry noodle from Bukit Mertajam. You can find this stall just beside Jit Sin Independent High School.

There is only one stall in this coffee shop. This stall sells Char Kway Teow, Kway Teow Soup and Fried rice. However, we always order the delicious dry noodle. Add a little bit of pepper and a little bit of sambal.  The noodle really taste wonderful. We were thinking of another extra bowl. :)

The other day I saw the coffee shop was packed with students. Wow! The business is incredibly good and it needs only one stall. Feeling hungry?

Clay Pot Rice

We wanted to try Curry Fish Head but ended up with the Clay Pot rice from the hawker centre and the price is rather expensive. (Without egg!)
Claypot Rice
To tell the truth, mom’s homemade clay pot rice is so much better. Mom’s clay pot rice has mushrooms and slices of garlic.

Hmmmm…I won’t try it again from the hawker centre.

Smelly Tou Fu

Yesterday, we found this Smelly Tou Fu in Chai Leng Park and would like to try it one more time just to bring back some nice memories… :)
Tou Fu
See photo above. Dare to try the smelly Tou Fu!(If you can read it). This photo was taken in China. I still remember people ran away from this stall and even the street due to the ultimate bad smell. I decided to hold my breath and brave myself to this stall then took this photo. Just for your information, keep away at least 1km from the stall if you afraid of the bad smell. :)

In Taiwan, you will not escape from the smell. There are these stalls everywhere in the streets, night markets etc. There is one street in Taiwan where all these stalls sell only smelly Tou Fu. They have roasted style, fried style, handmade style etc.

Despite the strong smell, the smelly Tou Fu is nice to eat. If you haven’t tried it, give it a try and enjoy it.

Food Heaven

Food1
Malaysia is the excellent place to eat.  You can find variety of good food in Malaysia.  Malaysian food, Chinese food, Indian food, Malay food, Penang hawker food, Thai food, Japanese food, Nyonya food, …etc. There are so many food choices. Just name it, sure you can find it.

I enjoy taking photos of all the good food. However, I always forget the photo taking task and realized it after finished eating. :) See above photo of Tom Yam noodle. Ha! Can’t see the noodle? :) I was too busy eating.

Famous Mixed Rice in Bukit Mertajam

As you know Penang is a paradise for food lovers. Therefore, another post regarding food. Recently, The New York Times nominated Penang as one of 44 places to go in 2009. This is absolutely correct. I must write more about Penang…..

Try to imagine roasted chicken and pork rice with delicious sauce, soup & chili. I don’t know how to call this rice but the name given is nasi campur (mixed rice in Malay language). This mixed rice can be found only in Bukit Mertajam.

Tada! Check out the photo here. Very delicious and special! See the sauce?
Mixed Rice
Notice the bowl with the soup? The same bowl which is earlier used to cook the rice. I find this unique.  :)

After a while, the food seller inform the crowd the rice has finished. Come again tomorrow. :)

Oyster Mee Sua or Flour Rice noodle

Finally I manage to find yummy Oyster Mee Sua here in Prai, Penang.  The taste is quite similar to the Oyster Mee Sua which I have tasted years ago in Taiwan. I still remember how people queued for Ay-Chung flour rice noodle at Xi Men Ting, Taiwan. If you don’t see the situation there, sure you won’t believe what I said. See the photo below for evidence.

There is no table or chair for you. Stand or squat anywhere if you like and enjoy your Mee Sua. :)
Mee Sua

This similar superb Mee Sua finally can be found here in Penang. Not that Penang don’t have Mee Sua but the taste of this handmade Mee Sua of ShihLin Taiwan Street Snacks found here (at Queensbay mall or Jusco) tasted good and reminds me of Ay-Chung noodle in Taiwan. Especially the oysters….

Hmmm….see the photo below. This is the Mee Sua of ShihLin. See those oysters? They are really fresh and super yummy. True, really fresh! (The photo. Not bad) :)

Putu Mayung

You can call this dish Putu Mayam or Putu Mayung. Which is the correct name? Anyway, I just like this dish.
PutuMayung1

Putu Mayam or Putu Mayung is a simple dish with super yummy taste! Main ingredients are rice noodle, coconut, brown sugar and some with pandan flavour.

Tasty and Super yummy!  I like this photo. Nice leh?
PutuMayung3

:) Heard this dish is quite rare in Kuala Lumpur.  Is it true?  if you have any information of nice Putu Mayung in KL, just send in your comment lah.  Just wanna help people in KL to find nice Putu mayung.
PutuMayung2

I like the way they make Putu Mayung. Check out the video here.

Eat Eat Eat

Ok, Let’s go to Macalister road, Georgetown, Penang!

Purpose of this journey: Guess? of course to eat.

So keen to try out this new gadget, my crazy brother plugged in this GPS navigation system which leads him the way to Macalister road, Georgetown (FYI, he knew exactly how to get to the destination even without the navigation system…).   Not bad. the accuracy of this navigation system: 95%. :)
GPS

Ok, this is Macalister road, so many delicious foods. Which one to order? Loh Bak? Curry Mee? Hawker8

Wow! Nice chicken wings!
Hawker5

Some of the foods we ordered.  Unable to squeeze all the foods (Curry noodle, Fried Oysters, Beef noodle, Char Kway Teow…etc) in one photo.  :)  Imagine the food we ordered??
Hawker1

I tried to capture the photo before they finished all the foods. End result: I was too slow. Photos taken were rather blur. :) Evidence: They have finished the Chee Cheong Fan.
Hawker2

Sister in law, Mom & Big bro.
Hawker7

Surprise!  Look at the situation after 15 minutes.
Hawker3

Bro still very hungry !!  Hunt for favourite Putu Mayung. Finally he managed to find one. (Photo not sharp)
Hawker6

Lesson learnt : Do not eat Chee Cheong Fan or Laksa first else you will find the later food less tasty.
Follow this eating sequence : Po Piah, Beef noodle, Fried Oysters, Char Kway Teow, Curry noodle, Laksa, Ais kacang……
